Air India Flight Crash: PM Modi Requests Detailed Information

Crash in Ahmedabad

Air India flight to London crashed at the start of the flight from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The plane crashed near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at around 1:30 PM on Thursday.

Prime Minister Reaction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi summoned Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. He enquired about the circumstances of the crash and directed immediate action for rescue efforts. PM Modi also telephoned Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Both leaders directed Amit Shah to go to Ahmedabad and get first-hand information about the situation.

Investigation Begins

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) initiated an official inquiry. AAIB Director General and team are traveling to the accident site. They have been assigned with the responsibility to determine the causes of the accident.

Flight Details and Passengers

The plane used was Air India flight AI-171. It had 242 individuals, including passengers and crew. Among the passengers, there were 169 Indian nationals and 53 from the UK. BJP leader and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also boarded the plane. Rescue operations are ongoing at the crash site.
