DoT Simplifies Mobile Plan Switching: New 30-Day Rule Introduced

New Mobile Switching Rules Announced

Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has come up with a new regulation for mobile users. Under this regulation, the users can change from prepaid to postpaid and vice versa through an OTP-based method. The procedure now is just 30 days.

Decreased Cooling-Off Period from 90 to 30 Days

Previously, the users used to wait for 90 days before they could modify the type of plan. According to new directives that were released on June 10, 2025, now the waiting time is decreased to 30 days. This simplifies it to switch plans according to individual usage requirements.

OTP-Based KYC Required at Telecom Outlets

To switch from prepaid to postpaid or vice versa, users are required to perform an OTP-based one-time KYC. This is required by going to a telecom service provider's store. The new process is aimed at ensuring the process of switching is faster and more secure.

First-Time Change Only: 90-Day Wait for Repeat Requests

This service is only for one-time plan switching. If customers want to switch again, they have to wait for another 90 days. This restriction maintains efficient frequent switching requests.

Time-Saving Advantage for Mobile Subscribers

With the new 30-day restriction, mobile subscribers can save time and have greater flexibility. The streamlined process is more convenient when managing mobile plans.
