IPhone Exports From India Focus Heavily On The U.S. Market

Apple Changes Export Direction for iPhone from India to the U.S.

Apple has shifted its export policy. From March to May this year, 97% of iPhones exported from India were to the United States. Earlier, India exported the majority of its iPhones to nations such as the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Now, the company is aiming for the U.S. market virtually exclusively.

Tariffs Affect Apple's Export Choices

Apple ramped up production in India. The move is in reaction to high U.S. tariffs on iPhones produced in China. Apple shipped $3.2 billion worth of iPhones from India to the United States in three months, from March to May. This was inclusive of $1.3 billion in March and $1 billion alone in May. In total, Apple exported $4.4 billion worth of iPhones in the first half-yearly period this year, versus $3.7 billion in overall exports during last year.

Tariff Negotiations Between India and the U.S. Continue

India and the U.S. are negotiating to prevent additional tariffs. The U.S. has delayed an extra 26% tariff on Indian products until July 9. Both nations intend to utilize this 90-day period to arrive at a solution. The underlying 10% tariff continues in force in the meantime. At the same time, the U.S. and China are negotiating to decrease tariffs.
