Rahul Gandhi Begins Shifting Belongings on Birthday
Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will be moving to a new government bungalow. His new address will be Bungalow No. 5 on Sunhari Bagh Road in New Delhi.
Party sources confirmed that the process of shifting began on June 19, the birthday of Rahul Gandhi. He will complete the shift before July 21, when the monsoon session of Parliament commences.
Official Residence Confirmation and Background
Rahul Gandhi has formally accepted Bungalow No. 5 as his official residence. Parliament authorities had previously offered the house but were awaiting his confirmation.
Earlier, he resided at 12, Tughlaq Lane after becoming a Member of Parliament. He relinquished that dwelling in 2023 after being disqualified as a member of Lok Sabha after a defamation case. Since then, he had been living with Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath.
Residence Allotment After Opposition Leader Status
Rahul Gandhi now qualifies for a Type 8 bungalow after he was made the Leader of Opposition in the recent Lok Sabha polls. The position equates his rank to that of a cabinet minister.
A. Narayanaswamy, a BJP leader, occupied the Sunhari Bagh bungalow earlier. He was a Union Minister of State in the Modi administration from 2021-2024.
