Netanyahu Declares Goals Achieved in Iran Operation
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel doesn't envision a protracted war against Iran. He affirmed that the recent military operations, dubbed "Operation Rising Lion", have achieved their primary goals.
Speaking after the United States bombed Iranian targets, Netanyahu highlighted that the Fordow nuclear facility in Tehran was badly damaged. In his view, the strike undermined Iran's nuclear weapons program substantially. "We have eliminated the threat. We won't do more than required. When we succeed in achieving our objectives, the operation will conclude. The war will be over," he stated.
Netanyahu further added that Iran's leadership had hoped to annihilate Israel, and that this compelled Israel to do what it has done. He clarified that the operation targeted two grand threats: nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. "We are closer to eliminating both," he said. But he also said quite firmly that Israel would not relent until its work is done.
Iran's Response: Khamenei and Pezizkian React
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, severely criticized the attack. He labeled Israel's move as a "grave mistake" and a "serious crime." He threatened that the perpetrators should be punished, but he did not include the United States in his speech.
Iranian President Massoud Pezizkian also criticized the US attacks. He threatened that America would have to be punished for its actions. In a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, Pezizkian stated Iran would retaliate accordingly.
UN Meeting: Iran Blames US Policy
In the emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, Iran's UN Envoy, Amir Saeed Iravani, blamed Netanyahu for dictating American foreign policy. The US involvement in the war negatively affects its international image, he claimed. "This war will leave a permanent stain on the US. Diplomacy is being destroyed," Iravani threatened. He guaranteed that Iran would answer in due time.
