Iran Official Announcement of Ceasefire
Iran has officially declared that a ceasefire deal with Israel has begun. Tehran affirmed this via its official state-run media outlets. The announcement comes after reports by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a peace agreement between the two countries.
Confirmation by Trump on Ceasefire Conditions
Trump, in a Truth Social post, said: "The ceasefire is in effect. Do not break it." Previously, he laid out the ceasefire timeline and procedure. According to him, Iran would implement the ceasefire first, and then Israel would do so after 12 hours.
Ceasefire Timeline Breakdown
- Iran to implement ceasefire 12 hours after Trump's announcement
- Israel to implement its own ceasefire 12 hours thereafter
- Total ceasefire to take effect after a period of 24 hours
- War set to end officially after 12 days of fighting
Trump called on both sides to keep peace and tranquility during the ceasefire.
Continuous Attacks Before Ceasefire Went Into Effect
Even as Iran declared a ceasefire, it staged a number of attacks moments before it took effect. Missiles hit some areas in Israel. A building in Beersheba was heavily damaged. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed seven deaths and scores of injuries.
Confusion Over Iran's Initial Response
Iran's reaction to the ceasefire was initially ambiguous. Its foreign minister tweeted no formal agreement had been reached. He said Iran would desist from its attacks only if Israel did likewise. But very soon, Tehran confirmed its military attacks on Tel Aviv had ceased. It declared it was ready to respect the ceasefire.
