Official Nomination Made by U.S. Congressman
U.S. President Donald Trump has been formally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination was made by U.S. Representative Buddy Carter, who made a formal letter to the Nobel Committee in Norway.
Carter explained that Trump progressed very fast in significant crises across the globe. He cited Trump's action in brokering Iran's peace deal with Israel. He also asserted that Trump facilitated the prevention of the world's leading terrorism sponsor from obtaining lethal weapons. Carter believed that Trump's leadership was worthy of acknowledgment via the Nobel Peace Prize. He attributed Trump with bringing an end to the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran.
How Nobel Nominations Work
Nobel Peace Prize nominations are submitted by national parliamentarians, professors at universities, and some other worthy individuals. Trump has had some disappointment in the past at not winning the prize. He posted on Truth Social that no amount of what he does will ever get him the prize. He continued that even if he ended the conflicts such as the ones between India and Pakistan or Serbia and Kosovo, he would still not get the prize.
Ukrainian lawmaker withdraws nomination
Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksandr Merezhko had also put forth Trump's nomination. However, he withdrew the nomination recently. The move came after Trump's inability to put an end to the Russia-Ukraine war. According to Merezhko, he no longer thought that Trump could bring about peace. Trump had even made a campaign promise to put an end to the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of assuming office. While Ukraine welcomed the offered terms for peace, Russia did not accept them.
Pakistan's Response After Trump's Statements
Pakistan had also made a nomination for Trump. However, soon after, Trump had conducted strikes with bunker buster bombs against Iranian targets. The move came as a shock to the Pakistani government. The move invoked public outrage. The opposition in Pakistan asked the government to retract the Nobel nomination. India also said that Trump had done nothing to ease its current tension with Pakistan.
