WhatsApp Adds Document Scanning Feature For Android Users

New Feature Currently in Beta Testing

WhatsApp is launching a new document scanning feature for Android users. The feature has already been available on iPhones and has just entered the beta phase for Android. A public release is imminent.

No Longer Needing Third-Party Apps

Android users previously depended on third-party apps to scan and send documents using WhatsApp. This can now be done directly from the WhatsApp camera with the latest update.

Where to Find the New Option

In the WhatsApp attachment menu, a new option "Scan Document" will be placed next to the current "Browse Documents" and "Choose from Gallery" options.

Manual and Automatic Scanning Modes

The feature comes with two scanning modes:

  • Manual Mode: You can manually choose and scan only the section of the document you prefer. The file is saved and sent as a PDF.
  • Automatic Mode: The app automatically detects the edges of the document and scans it without having to adjust anything manually.

Rollout Timeline and Availability

While iOS users have enjoyed this feature for a few months, Android users will get it over time as part of a more extensive update.
