Pakistani Celebrities: Social Media Accounts Banned Again In India

Pakistani Handles Suspended After Temporary Restoration

Some Pakistani YouTube and Instagram handles have again been blocked in India. These handles had temporarily returned on Wednesday but were suspended again in the morning on Thursday.

Government Action Came Following Public Reaction

The accounts were first banned following the Pahalgam terror attack. Once they reappeared, social media users condemned their restoration. Some called for the ban to be continued. The Indian government is said to have blocked the accounts once again following this. No official confirmation of this has been issued.

Scope of the Ban Was Broad

Earlier, when there were increased tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian government had blocked several Pakistan-based YouTube channels. These were news, entertainment, and personal channels. YouTube channels of Pakistani cricketers Shoaib Akhtar, Basit Ali, and Shahid Afridi were among them.

Accounts of Politicians Also Affected

The ban also applied to political personalities. The YouTube channels of Pakistan's Prime Minister and Defense Minister were among those suspended. Many actors and sports people from Pakistan also had their accounts suspended.

Reason for the Ban

The Indian government gave the reason as the dissemination of misinformation regarding the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. If users try to click on banned channels, a message comes up stating that the content is not accessible in India due to national security directives.
