Dalai Lama's 90th Birthday Was Celebrated in Dharamsala

Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama became 90 years old. The celebration was held in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. Many participants were involved, including Indian officials. The celebration was given a lot of publicity.

PM Modi Sends Best Wishes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his best wishes to the Dalai Lama. His message was interpreted as a goodwill gesture.

China Objects

China was adamant in objecting to India's involvement in the celebration. It protested against PM Modi's greeting as well.

India's Response to China's Objections

New Delhi replied that the concerns of Beijing regarding Tibet are taken into consideration. It further added that these things must be considered in a wider context.

On being questioned regarding PM Modi's message, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning stated:

“China’s position on Tibet-related issues is consistent and clear. This is known to all.”
