Prime Minister Oli Reasserts View on Ram's Birthplace
Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has once again claimed that Lord Ram was born in Nepal. He made this statement during a political event in Kathmandu on Monday.
Oli said that, according to Valmiki’s original Ramayana, Ram’s birthplace is in Nepal. He urged Nepali citizens to promote this belief without hesitation. He also questioned the creation of alternate versions regarding Ram's birthplace.
Oli Refers to Religious Texts
Oli stated that the location of Ram's birth still exists in Nepal. He expressed concern that the issue has not been promoted well. He said some people may feel hurt by this, but insisted the statement is based on scriptures.
He further added that saints like Shiva and Vishwamitra were also born in Nepal. According to him, these claims are not personal opinions but are mentioned in Valmiki’s Ramayana.
Similar Statements in the Past
This is not the first time Oli has spoken about this. In 2020, he stated that Ayodhya is located at Thori, Chitwan district of Nepal. He stated that Lord Ram was born there. He also added that the Putrakameshti Yagam conducted by King Dasharatha took place in Nepal.
Government Explanation of Earlier Statements
Those comments sparked general criticism. Nepal's Foreign Ministry later came out to clarify that the Prime Minister didn't mean to offend anybody's religious beliefs. The ministry justified that there are different accounts regarding Lord Ram's birthplace. It also laid importance on conducting detailed cultural and geographical studies on the Ramayana.
