Starlink Gets Approval For Satellite Internet Services In India

IN-SPACe Gives Final Clearance

Starlink, promoted by Elon Musk, has secured final clearance to provide satellite internet services in India. The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) has issued the desired permission, Reuters reports.

End of Long Wait for Commercial License

Since 2022, Starlink was waiting for a commercial license. Now, with this clearance, the company can launch its service rollout in the country.

Earlier Approval Was Given by Telecom Department

Back in June, Starlink received initial approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The new approval given by IN-SPACe completes the regulatory process required to begin operations.

Other Players Already Cleared

OneWeb and Reliance Jio have already received similar permissions. All three providers now move to the next steps.

Next Steps: Spectrum, Infrastructure, and Trials

To launch services, these companies must:

  • Obtain spectrum from the Indian government
  • Build ground infrastructure and base stations
  • Conduct security compliance trials

Only after completing these steps can Starlink and others offer satellite internet to Indian consumers.
