New Feature Facilitates Easy Verification of Messages
WhatsApp has introduced a feature to enable users to verify the content of messages or images forwarded more than once. Rather than exiting the app to look online, users can now employ an inbuilt option labeled 'Search on Web'.
How the Feature Functions
Whenever a message or picture is forwarded over and over again, WhatsApp presents the 'Search on Web' option. Pressing it presents two buttons: 'Search' and 'Cancel'.
If the user presses 'Search', WhatsApp forwards the message or photo to Google Search, and the results are opened in a web browser. This assists users in verifying whether the information is accurate.
Feature Availability and Privacy
Google's terms of service and privacy conditions apply when this feature is used.
It was first tested in 2020 in nations such as Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US, and this feature is currently available in:
- Chile
- Argentina
- Colombia
- France
- Germany
- Nigeria
- Peru
- Dominican Republic
- Venezuela
It only operates on messages or pictures forwarded over two times.
