Tensions Rise Again in West Asia

Israel and Syria are again locked in escalating tensions. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) bombed a military headquarters in the capital city of Syria, Damascus. The IDF confirmed the attack in a press release.

Israeli Forces Target Military Facility

The IDF stated that the attack particularly targeted the military headquarters entrance. Syrian military sources also confirmed the attack and added that the targeted location was a Syrian Ministry of Defense facility.

Sweida Region Witnesses Deadly Armed Conflict

Meanwhile, in another development, violent fights broke out in Syria's Sweida province. The fight involved local militias, including the Sunni Bedouin tribe and the Druze militia. At least 100 individuals were killed during the fight, which began on Sunday.

Cause of the Clashes

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the fight began after gunmen stole a Druze vegetable seller. This caused tensions between the two groups to rise.

Druze Minority and Their Role in the Region

The Druze are a Shiite minority. There are approximately one million Druze individuals living globally. Almost half reside in Syria, with the remainder in Israel and Lebanon.

Syria's Interim Government Undergoes Challenges

Last year, an interim government was formed in Syria. Ahmed al-Sharrah, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Julani, leads the government. He promised to protect all communities in the country. However, he has not been successful in achieving this goal.
