Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Chargesheet Against His Brother-in-Law
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the central government has been targeting his brother-in-law, Robert Vadra, for the last 10 years. His statement came following the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filing a chargesheet in a land deal case against Vadra.
Rahul Gandhi Responds to Chargesheet
Rahul Gandhi said the new chargesheet is politically motivated. Rahul said the government has been after Robert Vadra for ten years on all occasions. He also pledged the support of his family members, including Priyanka Gandhi, and said they will contest the case as a whole. The case is politically motivated, according to him, and he is certain the truth will win out.
Details of the Land Deal Case
Robert Vadra is charged with malpractices in a land transaction in Shikohpur, Haryana. The Enforcement Directorate submitted the chargesheet on Thursday. The agency has interrogated Vadra several times in the case.
Companies and Individuals Named
The ED chargesheet mentions 11 companies, one of which is Vadra's Skylight Hospitality Private Limited. The agency also names his partners Satyanand Yaji and Keval Singh, and their company Omkareshwar Properties. The agency informed that it has confiscated 43 immovable assets worth ₹37.64 crore linked to Vadra.
Alleged Transaction Timeline
As per the ED, Vadra's firm purchased 3.5 acres of land in Shikohpur from Omkareshwar Properties in February 2008 for ₹7.5 crore. Four years afterward, the firm sold it to real estate company DLF for ₹58 crore. The ED claims the transactions involved money laundering.
FIR Filed in 2018
In 2018, the ED registered an FIR of the case with the name of Robert Vadra. It also included the then Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, DLF, and a property dealer in the probe.
