US Declares TRF a Terrorist Organization
The United States has recognized The Resistance Front (TRF) as a terrorist organization. TRF, on April 22, attacked in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 tourists. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said TRF has affiliations with the Pakistan-based organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. India greeted the US action. The Ministry of External Affairs described this as a reflection of the robust cooperation between India and the US to combat terrorism.
Shashi Tharoor Hails the US Decision
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor reacted to the news. On platform X (formerly Twitter), he stated that he welcomed the decision by the US. Tharoor had just returned from the US as part of an all-party delegation after India's Operation Sindoor.
Tharoor Spoke of Pakistan's Contribution to Terrorism
While he was there, Tharoor had informal talks with US officials. He accused the US government of turning a blind eye towards Pakistan, where terrorist organizations are given shelter, according to him. He further indicated Pakistan's assertion that it is working with the US against terrorism.
He Spoke about a Recent Terror Case
Tharoor cited the recent arrest of a suspect in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing, which claimed 23 lives. He stated that India has apprised US authorities on the handling of terrorism by Pakistan. India is aware of what Pakistan really does, he added.
Tharoor described the US action as a first step to reducing gaps in understanding between India and the US. He also noted that this will help India’s efforts to designate the TRF as a terrorist group at the United Nations.
