Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP And EC Of Targeting Bengalis

TMC Chief Addresses Martyrs' Day Rally

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission (EC) are supposedly colluding to delete Bengali voters from voting lists. She made the comments at a Trinamool Congress (TMC) rally on Martyrs' Day.

Bengalis residing in BJP-ruled states are being harassed, and some are being detained in camps, according to Banerjee. She stated that the TMC will keep working towards it until the BJP is ousted from national power.

Allegations of Harassment and Language Bias

Mamata Banerjee also asserted that women in BJP-governed states are being treated unfairly. She requested the authorities to take swift action. She condemned BJP leaders for belittling Bengalis and their language.

She further stated that if BJP comes to power in Bengal, they boast of development. But she asked the party what they have done in the past 11 years. She threatened that if such issues continue, the agitation will extend to Delhi.

Call for Language Movement and 2026 Elections Focus

Banerjee said that the TMC will start a language rights movement on July 27. The aim is to protest against BJP's perceived discrimination against the Bengali language. She stressed the need for more seats in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections and said that later, they would try to shape national politics in Delhi.

BJP's 'Super Emergency' Compared to Congress's Past

Describing BJP's attack on Banerjee's allegation of a historical Emergency under Congress, Banerjee mentioned that BJP is currently functioning what she called a "super emergency." She referred to recent changes in voter lists in Bihar under the Special Summary Revision (SIR), claiming that anti-BJP voters were being deleted.

She declared that such actions will not be allowed in West Bengal. She assured that her party will resist and expel any such efforts from the state.
