Perplexity CEO Urges Gen Z To Prioritize AI Skills Over Social Media

Focus on AI Tools Instead of Scrolling Instagram, Says CEO

Perplexity AI CEO Arvind Srinivas has urged youth, particularly Gen Z, to reduce their Instagram time and instead learn to utilize AI tools proficiently. He offered this tip while speaking with tech reporter Matthew Berman. Srinivas stressed the point that knowing AI can translate into better employment prospects.

Quick Shifts in the AI World

Srinivas clarified that the industry for artificial intelligence is changing extremely rapidly, usually experiencing significant changes within three to six months. He cautioned that if people fail to keep pace, they might lose out in the employment sector. "Growing with technology is not easy," he explained. He added that in previous scenarios, humans have found it difficult to accept significant technological advancements.

AI May Replace Human Recruiters

On a recent episode of Decoder, a podcast by The Verge, Srinivas explained that Perplexity's AI Comet Browser can automate most of the work done by recruiters. He attributed this to a good AI prompt being able to substitute weeks of work. Such tasks are:

  • Collecting candidate information
  • Sending emails
  • Following up on responses
  • Updating Google Sheets
  • Scheduling in Google Calendar
  • Sharing meeting briefs

Srinivas mentioned that the automation of these tasks is the goal of future AI software. Right now, Comet Browser is only accessible to free Perplexity subscribers. The company will be sending out invites to free users soon as well.
