Comments Made At Washington DC AI Summit
At the AI Summit conducted in Washington DC on Wednesday, former President of the United States Donald Trump asked giant tech companies like Google and Microsoft to concentrate on employing American workers instead of bringing in employees from overseas, more so from India.
Trump attacked what he labeled a "globalist approach" by technology companies. He said many Americans feel they are being ignored by firms that are taking advantage of U.S. policy but refusing to invest and build operations in the United States.
Fears of Offshore Investment and Hiring
Trump explained that some technology companies have been establishing businesses in nations such as China and bringing on employees from India. He asserted such companies declare minimal profits by piping business through nations such as Ireland and have not given U.S. workers importance. In his words, such a trend would cease under him.
He stressed that the tech industry must again have a strong focus on national interest. "To win the AI race, we need a new kind of patriotism in Silicon Valley," Trump declared. He called on tech companies to place America first and advance domestic growth and employment.
New Executive Orders on Artificial Intelligence
During the summit, Trump signed three executive orders concerning artificial intelligence. The orders seek to:
- Remove barriers that slow AI development.
- Speed up progress in AI technologies.
- Ensure government-funded AI projects remain politically neutral.
