Govt Bans 24 OTT Apps Over Obscene Content

Ministry Acts Against Inappropriate Online Content

The Central Government has acted against OTT platforms that had aired content against Indian laws. It banned a number of apps and websites due to the availability of pornographic content.

Official Notification Issued

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under the Union government has issued a notification banning 24 OTT platforms and websites. The sites, such as Ullu and ALTT, were charged with continuously flouting norms by advertising obscene material.

ISPs Directed to Block Websites

The government has directed all Internet Service Providers to block the sites. Authorities cautioned that not abiding by this order will lead to the deprivation of lawful protection for the platforms.

Statement from the Ministry

The Ministry informed that platforms like Ullu, ALTT, Big Shots, Desiflix, and Gulab App were consistently uploading objectionable content. As a result of repeated offenses, the government has imposed stringent action.

Reminder for Content Responsibility

OTT platforms and their service providers have been reminded to remain responsible for the content they are disseminating. The Ministry reiterated that airing illegal content would have severe legal repercussions.
