Maldives Sets Out to Revive Its Relations with India

The Maldives, following previous tensions over the 'India Out' policy, is now set to enhance its relationship with India. President Mohamed Muizzu has referred to India as the Maldives' most reliable friend and partner. His statements were made amid a meeting with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

President Muizzu Emphasizes India's Ongoing Support

President Muizzu said India has always supported the Maldives. He noted cooperation in several areas including:

  • Healthcare
  • Education

He added that India has helped the Maldives during natural disasters and other emergencies by acting quickly and providing aid.

Official Dinner Honors Modi’s Visit

President Muizzu welcomed Prime Minister Modi to an official dinner. President Muizzu commended Modi for his leadership, highlighting his record 4,078 days in power. This demonstrates Modi's commitment to national development and public service, Muizzu stated.

Modi Reaffirms Commitment to Maldives

Prime Minister Modi said that India's friendship with the Maldives is founded on trust. He assured assistance to develop the defense capabilities of the Maldives. He also stated that the Maldives is a priority for India under its "Neighborhood First" policy.

India Offers Financial Assistance

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi announced a financial loan of ₹4,850 crore for the Maldives. He will also attend the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations as the chief guest on Saturday.
