
Trump Announces New Tariffs on Indian Imports
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on goods imported from India. He said this decision was based on India’s ongoing oil trade with Russia. Trump recently repeated his concerns about India and Russia’s trade relationship.
Trump Shares His View on Social Media
On Thursday, Trump posted on Truth Social. He stated that he had no involvement in India’s trade agreements with Russia. Trump claimed the Russian economy is weakening and added that the U.S. does very little business with India. He also accused India of charging the highest tariffs in the world.
Trump Criticizes Former Russian President
Trump also criticized Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president. Medvedev warned the U.S. about risking war by interfering with Russia. In response, Trump said Medvedev acts like he is still in power and warned that his behavior could be dangerous.
U.S. Targets Countries Trading With Russia
The U.S. government has often cautioned countries, including India, against trading with Russia. Because of this, it brought a 25% tariff on Indian goods along with more punishment. According to the U.S., India impose some of the highest tariffs worldwide.
Active Tariff Policy to Start From August 1
These new tariffs will start from August 1. India is the first country to face U.S. penalties due to its import relations with Russia. In response, India said it would take steps to defend its national interests.
