Trump's Criticism of Indian Economy
US President Donald Trump recently made provocative statements calling India's economy a "dead economy." He criticized India's relationship with Russia as well, warning both nations not to let their economies go down together. Trump previously leveled a 25% tariff on Indian goods and threatened additional punishments if India continued buying oil from Russia.
Modi Emphasizes India's Economic Development
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly responded to Trump's comments while speaking at a public function in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Modi said that India is on the verge of becoming the world's third-largest economy. He added that it was essential to safeguard India's economic interests at the time of global uncertainty. He appealed to all political parties to help domestic production and Indian-made goods.
"India will become the third largest economic power soon. Each country is thinking about its own interest. We should also do so," Modi said.
Call to Support Domestic Products
Modi demanded a movement supporting indigenous products. He urged citizens to purchase only Indian-made products and sought political party unity to realize this. He stated that the central government is already taking initiatives to consolidate the economy.
Modi Takes Issue with Opposition on National Security
At the same rally, Modi took issue with the Congress party and opposition parties for their responses to national security activities. He referred to "Operation Sindoor" and stated that some parties ridiculed the name of the mission.
"It is not good to mock 'Sindoor'. Our forces proved strong, and we saved people from harm. But some cannot digest this success," Modi stated.
He blamed opposition leaders for disrespecting the Indian security forces by criticizing their efforts.
Response to Questions on 'Operation Mahadev'
Modi also mentioned a recent Jammu and Kashmir operation, "Operation Mahadev," in which terrorists were killed in Pahalgam. According to him, the success occurred with the blessings of God. In response to critics who raised an eyebrow about the timing of the operation, Modi justified the prompt action.
“Should we delay action when we locate terrorists? Should we wait and let them escape?” Modi asked.
