Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal Responds To Trump's Tariff Decision On India

U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian products, even after referring to India as a friendly country. Trump is also set to visit Pakistan and has blamed India for possibly importing Pakistani oil in the future.

During all this, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal expressed his views on the social platform X.

Deepinder Goyal's Statement on X

Time always reminds us where we stand. Now, tariffs are a new challenge. In spite of these pressures, we have to concentrate on our work and go ahead. If we do not control our future, strong countries will continue to use threats," Goyal wrote.

He stressed that the only way to go ahead is to cooperate as a nation—developing strength economically, technologically, defensively, and through our ambitions.

Details About the Tariff Changes

The U.S. recently imposed a 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, which becomes effective this Thursday. Another 25 percent will be applied from the 27th of this month, taking it to a total tariff of 50 percent.

These tariffs will find their way into Indian industries like:

  • Textiles
  • Aquaculture
  • Leather products

India's Official Response

India has labeled these new tariffs as unfair and unjustified. Authorities have vowed to take all required measures for the protection of national interests.
