Election Commission Removes 334 Political Parties From Roll

EC Updates Party Register

The Election Commission (EC) has revised its updated list of political parties operating in the country. It has deleted 334 unknown political parties from the roll.

Reason for Deletion

According to EC regulations, a registered political party should have participated in at least one election within a period of six years. The 334 parties deleted had not participated in any election since 2019.

EC Findings

The EC stated that these parties were spread across various states and union territories. Many had no physical office despite being listed as parties.

Current Party Statistics

Before this decision, there were 2,854 unrecognized political parties registered in India. After the removal, the number has dropped to 2,520.
At present, India has 6 national parties and 67 recognized state-level parties.
