US–Pakistan Relations: Mixed Signals On Terrorism And Cooperation

US praises Pakistan's counterterrorism efforts

The United States has applauded Pakistan for its achievement in undermining the power of terrorist organizations. It conveyed sympathy to victims of recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan. These are comments that were made following a joint statement as Pakistan–US officials in Islamabad convened to discuss counterterrorism efforts.

The US has recently included The Resistance Front (TRF), which is associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, in its list of terrorist groups. This was done simultaneously when India blamed Pakistan for being involved in the Pahalgam attack.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that the US recognized Pakistan's effort in containing groups posing a threat to regional and international security. Both nations talked about tactics against groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army, ISIS-Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. One day earlier, the US had also included the Balochistan Liberation Army and its Majeed Brigades faction as international terrorist groups.

US has relations with India and Pakistan

The US said that there is no shift in its relations with either India or Pakistan. It added diplomatic engagement with both nations remains constant. A US State Department official affirmed that diplomats on both sides continue to work diligently.

This was made after Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir had made threats using nuclear weapons against several nations, including India.
