PM Modi: GST Changes Intend To Reduce Public Burden

Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that India's economy expanded 7.8 percent during the first quarter of 2025-26. Modi stated that India is becoming increasingly prominent in global attention as the quickest-developing huge economy. In his view, the Make in India policy has assisted the nation in rising exports.

Tax Burden Under Earlier Administrations

Modi lashed out at the excessive taxes of the Congress era.

  • Prior to 2014, 27 percent tax was being levied on everyday necessities like toothpaste, soap, and oil.
  • Today, these items are taxed only 5 percent GST.
  • He explained that costly medicines and insurance in the past created healthcare costly for families.

Relief Through GST Changes

The Prime Minister explained that GST changes will lower the expenses:

  • Medicine prices for serious illnesses, such as cancer, will decrease.
  • Several automobile and motorcycle companies have already cut prices.
  • Cement and building materials will be cheaper from September 22.
  • Reduction of 5 percent GST on different hotels will favor tourists.

He further said that these steps are reducing the load on families. He emphasized that the manufacturing industry is crucial for economic growth and national security. He asserted that India can become a developed nation only by empowering its people.

Operation Sindoor and National Security

Referring to Operation Sindoor, Modi mentioned that the world saw how the Indian Army gave a strong signal of warning to terror groups. He lauded the forces for their bravery and emphasized the significance of indigenous weapons in the defense of the nation.

Visit to the Northeast

Modi is in Manipur today, his first since communal clashes erupted in the state two years ago. Before that, he virtually laid the foundation stone of development projects in Mizoram. He also inaugurated the Bhairabi-Sairang rail line.

His itinerary:

  • Fly from Mizoram to Churachandpur.
  • At 12:30 pm, interact with the people who have been displaced by the clashes.
  • Lay foundation stone of projects worth ₹7,300 crore in Churachandpur.
  • Launch projects of more than ₹1,200 crore in Imphal.
