Early Life and Education
Petal Gahlot was born to a Rajput family in Maharashtra. She pursued Political Science from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. Subsequently, she received her master's degree from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi. In 2015, she became a part of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and started her diplomatic service.
Career in Foreign Service
In the last ten years, Gahlot has served in some important positions:
- Served as Under Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs' European West Division.
- Served in Indian missions in Paris and San Francisco.
- Appointed as First Secretary to the Indian Mission to the United Nations.
She is known as a clear and firm voice for India in international forums. She has frequently rebutted Pakistan's accusations against India in the UN. Her recent rebuttal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's comment once again marked her diplomatic presence.
