
Government Initiative
The installation of 72,300 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations under the PM e-Drive scheme has been approved by the central government. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 2,000 crore.
Subsidy for Institutions
- 100% subsidy will fund infrastructure and charging equipment in:
- Government offices
- Residential complexes
- Hospitals
- Educational institutions
- These charging stations will need to remain open to the public.
Subsidy for Public Spaces
Partial subsidies will be given to other sites:
- 80% subsidy on infrastructure
- 70% subsidy on charging equipment
Eligible locations are:
- Railway stations
- AAI-managed airports
- Public sector fuel company retail outlets
- Public sector undertaking-run bus stands
- Metro stations
- Public parking lots
- Ports
- Toll plazas
- National and expressways
- National highways
Priority Areas
The scheme would primarily target:
- Cities with a population of over 1 million
- Smart cities
- Satellite towns connected to metro systems
- State capitals
- High density roads
