Website Announcement
The US government launched TrumpRx.gov, a new website bearing the name of President Donald Trump. The site is designed to provide prescription medications at discounted rates. It comes after a deal with Pfizer, one of the leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms.
Purpose of the Initiative
Trump explained that this move is aimed at lowering the cost of healthcare in America. He assured that the "Most Favored Nation" policy will be effected shortly. The policy aims at making US drug prices equal to the prices in other developed nations.
Future Agreements
The President declared that more agreements will be entered into with other pharmaceutical firms. The aim is to increase the affordability of prescription drugs for American consumers. France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, Switzerland, and Denmark were cited as models for reasonable pricing.
Availability of the Website
The officials clarified that TrumpRx.gov will be open to the public early in 2026. The site will run under the motto "Most Favored Nation." The website, however, will not sell medicines directly. It will instead forward prescriptions to the manufacturers' direct-to-consumer websites.
Pricing and Medicines
According to Pfizer, the drugs available through TrumpRx.gov will cost about 50% less compared to prices outside the platform. Pfizer confirmed that basic medicines will be offered but did not provide a specific list of drugs.
Global Impact
Experts pointed out that the plan would have implications for world drug prices. If the Most Favored Nation strategy reduces US drug prices, drugmakers could increase prices elsewhere to make up the difference. India and other nations might see higher prices for medicine as a consequence.
