Notice on Future Meeting
US President Donald Trump affirmed that he will sit down with Chinese President Xi Jinping in four weeks. The scheduled meeting comes amid unresolved trade tensions between the nations.
Emphasis on Soybean Export
Trump said the primary topic of conversation will be soybean exports. He said American farmers are experiencing hardship due to China's curtailment of US soybean purchases. Trump also mentioned that some of the tariff funds raised by the US will go towards helping farmers.
APEC Summit and Future Plans
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit would be hosted by South Korea during the last week of October. World leaders, such as Xi Jinping, would be attending the summit. Trump revealed that he would have bilateral meetings with Xi during the summit. He also spoke about visiting China early next year.
Ongoing Trade Tensions
The US-China trade war commenced earlier this year with both sides imposing tariff increases. Negotiations have relaxed some tension, but Trump has not ceased his critique of Beijing. He recently called on the European Union and NATO allies to impose high tariffs on India and China for buying oil from Russia.
