Bihar Assembly Election Schedule To Be Announced Today

The Election Commission of India (EC) is going to declare the schedule of Bihar Assembly elections today. The press conference is arranged for 4 PM on Monday, during which the dates of the election will be announced. The EC has already issued an official communiqué announcing the program.

Election Details and Timeline

  • Bihar boasts 243 assembly seats. The term of the current assembly will expire in the last week of next month. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that voting would be conducted prior to November 22.
  • The polls are likely to be conducted in three phases. The CEC team recently made a two-day visit to Bihar to inspect election preparations and evaluate the overall preparedness of the state.

New Policies and Reforms

  • CEC Gyanesh Kumar stated that some new features will be added with this election. These features will be later extended to India. One of the features is the use of color photographs of candidates on the ballot papers utilized by EVMs.

  • The voter roll in Bihar has already been revised with a special three-phase process to maintain accuracy.

Current Political Scenario

  • The NDA government currently rules Bihar. In the 2020 Assembly elections, no single party won a majority, and a coalition government was formed between the BJP and the JDU. Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister.
  • Nitish Kumar joined the Grand Alliance with the RJD and Congress within two years and again became Chief Minister. The alliance, however, broke in January 2024. Subsequently, the JDU again joined the NDA, and Nitish Kumar again became the Chief Minister.
