Vijay To Meet Karur Stampede Victims’ Families Under Tight Security

Background of the Incident

TVK party president Vijay's campaign rally in Karur turned tragic when a stampede took 41 lives. The event left the whole state stunned and made national headlines owing to the magnitude of loss.

Vijay's Visit to Victims' Families

As per official reports, Vijay will meet the victim families on the 17th of this month. The meeting will not be conducted in the homes of the families but in a special place. The location hasn't been announced yet.

Security officials confirmed that security would be enhanced around the perimeter. The TVK party has demanded this arrangement in order to ensure that there are no untoward incidents at the meeting. Police have announced that access to the media will be restricted.

Security and Crowd Control Measures

Police are coordinating with airport and traffic authorities to make movement from Trichy airport to the Karur ground smooth. Steps are being taken to control public gatherings along the route.
The sources in the TVK party further stated that nobody will be permitted inside a kilometer of the venue other than the relatives of the victims.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Actions

Following the stampede, the police made some arrests of people associated with the TVK party. The party submitted a petition in the Madras High Court requesting an independent investigation of the accident.
In the beginning, the court denied this petition but subsequently directed an SIT inquiry to make it transparent and accountable. 

Government's Response and Future Measures

The Tamil Nadu government decided after the tragedy that political rallies will be curtailed on highways until Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are implemented. This was taken to avoid such tragedies and enhance crowd management at public events.
