Israel Announces Presidential Medal of Honor for Trump
Israel has decided to bestow U.S. President Donald Trump with its highest non-military honor, the Presidential Medal of Honor. The award is in appreciation for his efforts in brokering the Gaza ceasefire deal and the release of the hostages.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog confirmed, stating that the venue and date of the ceremony will be announced within the next couple of months.
Reasons for the Award
President Herzog indicated that Trump well deserves such an award for his contribution towards securing an historic peace agreement and safely releasing the hostages.
He emphasized that Israel thanks Trump for his unflinching support of the country as well as his contribution towards stability at the regional level.
Herzog also added that the actions of Trump would be remembered by the people of Israel for centuries. He expressed gratitude towards him, saying that due to day and night efforts by the U.S. President, many Israeli citizens are now safely reunited with their families.
Impact on the Middle East
- Herzog also added that Trump's diplomatic moves have opened the doors for long-term peace in Israel as well as in the entire Middle East region.
- He credited Trump with creating a more cooperative and safer environment after decades of bloodshed.
Trump's Reaction to the Peace Accord
- US President Donald Trump called the Israel-Hamas ceasefire the largest peace deal he had ever negotiated.
- This came as he was departing from Israel, just before Hamas was to release Israeli hostages under the terms of the new agreement.
- Trump added that recent actions against Iran had weakened Hamas, which enabled the signing of this peace agreement.
