Instagram Introduces Movie-Level Restrictions To Protect Teen Users

Instagram Tighter Safety Measures for Teenager Accounts

Meta's Instagram has unveiled new safety policies that will improve teenager safety. The platform will now use content limits based on PG-13 movie rating criteria. Teenager users under 18 years will automatically be put into a "13+" mode. Teens will no longer have the privilege of changing this mode without their parents' permission.

PG-13 Rating Standards-Based Limitations

The new configurations, according to Instagram's newsroom update, will comply with the standards put on movies and TV shows. The algorithm will limit exposure to violent content, sexual content, drug consumption, and profanity. Instagram reported that this is one of the biggest teen safety features updates in a year. The company aims to enhance current protections and refine its content filtering system.

AI-Based Age Detection and Content Filtering

Instagram uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect people who enter false ages to access adult content. The technology helps in identifying teens who pretend to be older than they are. The firm stated that objectionable content is still being shown, but it will improve its algorithm to fix such issues immediately.

Goal: Safer Online Experience for Teens

Instagram stated the fresh restrictions will help provide age-appropriate content for teenagers and provide parents with more control over their kids' online experience. The change is just one part of Meta's ongoing efforts to create a safe community for young users.
