WhatsApp Tests New Status Notification Feature

New Feature in Development

Meta-owned WhatsApp is in the process of developing a new update. The app is currently testing a feature that will send alerts when an opted-for contact updates their status. As reported by WABetaInfo, the feature is already available in beta version 2.25.30.4 for Android users. It is being rolled out in stages as WhatsApp monitors user performance and feedback.

How the Feature Works

To enable this feature, users need to open a person's status, touch the three dots on top right, and touch "Get notifications." While turned on, the app will give them an alert each time that contact updates their status.

When the status is shared with a photo or video, the notification displays a brief preview. This way, users can see updates without the need to open WhatsApp.

Privacy and Control Options

Users can disable notifications for any contact at their will. The selected contact will not be notified that this alert feature is enabled. This preserves users' privacy while keeping them aware of important updates.
