Virat Kohli's Viral Post Sparks Retirement Speculations From ODIs

Virat Kohli Smells Ground for ODI Return against Australia

Indian star cricketer Virat Kohli, who has already retired from Test and T20 forms of the game, is now committed for One Day Internationals (ODIs). Kohli has been picked in India's lineup for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, which will start on October 19. Kohli is already in Australia with the team and began preparing.

Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri and other experts have their views that this series will determine the destiny of Kohli in ODI cricket. They believe that strong performances would guarantee his selection for the 2027 ODI World Cup. But there are indications that if Kohli performs below par, then he may consider ODI retirement too.

Social Media Post Triggers Speculation

Against the relative speculations, a viral social media post from Kohli recently has kept everyone on their toes. Kohli posted on platform X (formerly Twitter), "Only when we raise our hands will we be defeated." People are speculating meaning behind the post, assigning it to his future in cricket. Some interpret it as a show of determination, while others interpret it as an indirect suggestion of retirement avenues.

Future Clouded for Rohit and Kohli

It is a known fact that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both want to play the 2027 ODI World Cup. But for that, there can be no assurance. Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir has refused to make a clear declaration regarding their future. He stressed that it is crucial to concentrate on the present and not the future.

Gambhir stated, "There are two and a half years remaining before the 50-over World Cup. It is necessary to remain in the present. Rohit and Kohli are good players. The experience they will acquire from the Australia tour will benefit the team. I wish them luck there."
