Trump Warns Russia About Sanctions Impact Within Six Months

US Sanctions Russian Oil Firms

US President Donald Trump has placed sanctions on a number of Russian oil firms. The move comes following actions by Russia amid the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin responded strongly, stating that Russia will not succumb to foreign pressure.

Trump responded to Putin's statement that he was happy Putin was aware that sanctions were not done as a friendly gesture. Trump cautioned that Russia would come to realize fully the effects of the sanctions within six months. Trump further said that time will tell how things develop.

White House Defends the Sanctions Decision

White House Press Secretary Carolina Leavitt stated that the sanctions were both necessary and appropriate. She noted that Trump had issued multiple warnings prior to doing this. In her opinion, the US administration has been disappointed with Russia not making any progress towards peace.

Leavitt further added that Trump became frustrated because Russia was not interested in halting the war. She stated that no information could be provided yet regarding a potential meeting between Trump and Putin but assured that the US hopes for a positive result from any future talks.

Focus on Results and Peace Efforts

Leavitt stated that Trump intends to utilize his meetings with Putin to prioritize action over words. She pointed out that Trump has been engaged in peace efforts since the start of his presidency.

The US sanctions are against two of Russia's biggest oil producers. Furthermore, the European Union has implemented additional economic sanctions on Russia.

Putin's Reaction to Western Pressure

President Putin said that the sanctions are meant to bully Russia into submission. He noted that no decent country would yield to such pressure. Putin threatened that the actions would also hurt American consumers by upsetting the international energy market.
