Trump's Remarks on Israel's Potential Move
United States President Donald Trump cautioned Israel not to seize the West Bank. Trump, in an interview with Time magazine, said that if Israel took over the West Bank, it would lose the support of America. Trump said he had made commitments to various Arab nations and that annexation of the West Bank would violate those commitments.
Trump believes that the U.S. is currently in good standing with Arab countries. He underscored that if Israel moves forward with annexation, the United States might lose that regional support. Trump also said that Israel must not engage in activities that would harm global relations.
Reactions from U.S. Officials
Vice President J.D. Vance just concluded a three-day trip to Israel. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also made a visit within the same time frame. Their visits followed the passage of two bills in the Israeli parliament endorsing moves towards the annexation of the West Bank.
The Vice President condemned such moves as offensive and poor. Rubio also strongly disagreed with the recent moves by Israel. Both officials said such actions risk straining diplomatic relations.
Trump's Policies on Regional Affairs
Trump also touched on advancements in normalizing relations between Israel and Arab nations. Trump was hopeful Saudi Arabia would sign the Abraham Accords within the year. Trump explained that previous problems, including the Israel-Gaza conflict and Iranian nuclear ambitions, had been major hurdles. However, Trump said those were no longer significant hurdles to overcome.
