Sunil Gavaskar Says Rohit And Virat Already Set For 2027 World Cup

Speculation Around Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Future

The upcoming ODI World Cup is still two years away, but the fans are already wondering if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would be a part of the tournament anymore. Rohit returned to form with a half-century in the second ODI against Australia after scoring a century in the third match. Virat Kohli, who was out for zero in the first two matches, returned to form with a half-century in the third match.

Cricket experts believe that these performances confirm the fact that both players are committed to playing ODI cricket till the next World Cup.

Gavaskar Assures Both Players' Inclusion

Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian cricketer, believed that both Virat and Rohit are sure to be part of the 2027 ODI World Cup squad.

He further stated, "The Australia series has proved that Rohit and Virat are ready for the 2027 World Cup. Whatever the case may be in the next two years, their names will have to be in the team. It could be fitness or injury, but I believe their slots are already booked. Anybody who has seen their form in the present would attest to that."

BBL's Interest in Indian Players

Cricket Australia head Todd Greenberg talked about the possibility of Indian players being part of the Big Bash League (BBL). In his opinion, Ravichandran Ashwin's potential to be included in the BBL makes the league more appealing and can open doors for players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the future.

Greenberg quoted, "We would wish to get the best Indian players into the BBL. Even if presently it is not possible, we will move in that direction."

BCCI's Restraints on Playing Foreign Leagues

Indian players on BCCI contracts cannot play foreign franchise leagues at present unless they retire from international and domestic cricket or receive special permission from the board. If the players do join foreign leagues without permission, BCCI can take disciplinary actions against them.
