Massive Job Reductions Anticipated Across Departments
Amazon is getting ready for the next big wave of staff firings. Recent news reports quoting Reuters said the company plans to eliminate some 30,000 corporate jobs. This will be one of the largest mass layoffs in the history of Amazon.
Background of Previous Layoffs
Since the last quarter of 2022, Amazon has already cut about 27,000 workers. The new layoffs will impact approximately 10% of the company's 350,000 corporate staff. The layoffs are said to be part of Amazon's continued cost-cutting effort.
Departments Likely to Be Affected
The company has been cutting employees in a number of departments over the last two years, including devices, communications, and podcasting. The reports indicate the upcoming firings will affect human resources, devices, and services divisions too.
Preparation and Management Guidance
Amazon reportedly had managers trained to deal with affected employees. Some 1,000 employees will be given layoff notices next week. Most of these workers are based at Amazon's Minneapolis headquarters.
Leadership and Strategic Direction
Layoffs have persisted since Andy Jassy took over as Amazon's CEO. He has underscored that the era now represents the shift to a period dominated by artificial intelligence (AI) as the company marks a strategic turnaround in its priorities.
