Troop deployment in the Donetsk Region
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had concentrated around 170,000 troops in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, and those forces are mainly trying to capture a city called Pokrovskoye, which he described as very important in the war.
Ukraine Defence Activities
Zelensky, for his part, acknowledged that the Ukrainian forces were holding their positions within the settlement of Pokrovskoye. He underlined that despite the sizeable Russian military presence, the Ukrainian forces are continuing to stand their ground and impeding further advances.
Statements from Both Leaders
Zelensky's statement followed that of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said several big Ukrainian cities were currently under Russian control. It is a reflection of how acute the war in eastern Ukraine still is, with both sides continuing to report active military operations in the region.
