Netanyahu on Situation with Hamas
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says about 200 jailed Hamas members now residing in Rafah will not be released. In a release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu reiterated his pledge to disarm Hamas.
Local reports suggested that Israel may offer safe passage to Hamas members if they lay down their arms. Al Jazeera also reported that mediators discussed a possible plan for Hamas fighters to be transferred in Red Cross vehicles, provided the group hands over the bodies of remaining hostages.
The accusations were denied by Israeli officials. The finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, condemned the reports on social media as "completely absurd." National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also sat with Netanyahu and demanded that either 200 Hamas members be killed or put in prison.
