Pakistan Clarifies Position On Nuclear Testing

Pakistan Responds to U.S. Remarks

Pakistan reacts to the recent statement of former US President Donald Trump on nuclear tests, saying that countries such as Russia, China, North Korea, and Pakistan are testing nuclear weapons. A senior Pakistani official said the country will not restart nuclear testing before other countries do. The official maintained that Pakistan was not the first country that conducted nuclear tests and also would not be the first to restart the tests.

China Reaffirms Its Nuclear Policy

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning commented further on the matter. He reiterated that China had adhered to a self-defense nuclear strategy, and as a responsible nuclear-armed state, continued to support the global commitment to stop nuclear tests.

Nuclear Test Statements by Trump

Former President Trump recently defended U.S. nuclear testing programs while making new remarks about global testing activities. He claimed that many countries are conducting nuclear tests but do not publicly acknowledge them. Trump said that Russia, China, North Korea, and Pakistan are among those nations. He added that the United States acts transparently in such matters.

Trump recounted that he had refrained from allowing the resumption of nuclear tests during his presidency because nuclear tests were too destructive. However, he hinted that circumstances have changed: firstly, there is an increasingly rapid development in the nuclear capabilities of Russia, China, and other countries. He revealed that he ordered the U.S. Department of Defense to get ready for resumed nuclear testing.
