Technical Shortcoming within the Air Traffic Control System
Delhi's international airport was hit with a technical glitch this morning. A malfunction in the system of air traffic control caused flights to be affected. Delays occurred in over 100 flights due to the problem, while officials said efforts were on to rectify the problem as soon as possible.

According to the official sources, the problem relates to the automatic message switching system. It is responsible for providing information related to flights to the auto track system. Due to the fault, the flight plans are not automatically reaching the air traffic controllers. The current preparation of flight schedules by the ATC staff is manual and this is delaying many departures and arrivals.
Impact on Airlines and Passengers
More than 100 flights have been delayed so far, confirm officials. Major airlines IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India have issued advisories for passengers in view of changes in their schedules. The airlines have apologized for the inconvenience caused. Passengers waiting at the airport are frustrated by the long wait at the airport. At the airport, heavy crowds can be seen at check-in and service counters.
