Delhi Blast Claims Nine Lives, Injures Twenty

  • A car explosion took place near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening. As many as nine people died and about twenty others were injured in the incident. Team India's head coach and former East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir shared his condolences for the tragedy through a social media post.
  • He wrote on his X account, "It is deeply saddening that lives have been lost due to the blast in Delhi. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those who passed away. I pray for the quick recovery of the injured."
  • Gautam Gambhir was a Member of Parliament from East Delhi from 2019 to 2024 before he became the coach of Team India.

Increased Security Measures in Kolkata

  • The South African cricket team has arrived in India for a tour. The first Test between India and South Africa begins on November 14 at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. In the wake of the Delhi blast, Kolkata Police have tightened security all over the city.
  • The Kolkata Police have beefed up security for the two teams, including in the hotels that the players would be putting up. Policemen are scrutinizing everybody and also keeping a close vigil on the surroundings. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma is scheduled to visit the Eden Gardens today, Tuesday, to supervise the arrangements. The CAB authorities are also slated to meet the police representatives to firm up the final security details.
