Eyewitness Accounts
A witness, Amit Mudgal, told PTI that he was talking to somebody when the portion of that person's hand fell behind him. The explosion was sudden, and fire and smoke engulfed the area. People ran in terror, trying to save themselves from the flames. Amit added that he helped injured victims reach the ambulances.
Another eyewitness, an auto driver, said a car was parked in front of his vehicle when it suddenly exploded. The auto driver sustained a head injury during the incident.
Impact on Surroundings
According to a shopkeeper near the blast site, the explosion was so powerful that buildings nearby shook. The windows of nearby shops and areas of the metro station were shattered due to the impact.
A street vendor, Manoj, operating his pani puri cart near Jama Masjid, recounts the impact of the explosion was felt a kilometer away. He describes the intensity of the sound as very loud and strong. The site also saw severed hands and fingers, according to him.
Public Reaction and Aftermath
Another witness, Irfan, described the scene as horrific, adding that pushcart and taxi drivers were stuck around the site of the explosion. Videos and photos of the aftermath have gone viral on social media, showing just how much damage there was.
