Trump announces reduction of tariffs

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will decrease the tariffs on India. He said that his administration is working towards making a fair deal on trade with India. Trump mentioned that the new deal will be quite different from the previous agreement. The US had imposed a tariff of 25 percent earlier on India, which was then increased to 50 percent.

Strong Relations with India Highlighted

Trump underlined the closeness between America and India, saying he shares a strong bond with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his view, India is both a significant economic partner and a key security ally in the Indo-Pacific region.

New US Ambassador to India Sworn In

Sergio Gore was sworn in as the new US Ambassador to India at the White House on Monday. Trump said during the occasion that the new Ambassador, Gore, would work towards strengthening bilateral relations. He would encourage investment in US industries and technology, increase American energy exports to India, while the security cooperation between the two countries should also be enhanced.

Emphasis on Fair Trade and Cooperation

Trump said the US is working on a new deal with India. Referring to the strained relations, he said he thinks things will be all right, very soon. He confidently opined that the new deal will bring mutual benefits for both countries through proper trade and closer economic cooperation.
