India Expresses Worry Over Illegal Arms Supply
India has expressed profound concern at the United Nations over cross-border terrorism linked to Pakistan. According to India, these attacks involve weapons illegally smuggled across the border. It has called for strict action against those responsible for the violence.
Statement by the Representative of India to the UN
The statement was given by India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvataneni Harish, while participating in a discussion on arms control at the UN Security Council on Monday. It has been said that India has dealt with terrorism for years and also understands the risks posed by illegal supply of weapons to countries and terrorist groups.
Recent Incidents and Use of Advanced Technology
Harish referred to the recent blast in Delhi's Red Fort area that killed 12 people, explaining that cross-border terrorism continues to use illegal arms and now includes drone-based attacks. The rise of advanced technology in terrorism shows, he added, that such groups depend on external financial and logistical support.
Call for Global Implementation of Arms Bans
Harish, in a speech, emphasized that the UN Security Council bans are necessary to control movements of weapons into conflict areas. He urged all countries to heed and enforce the bans to cut illicit flows of arms and lower terrorism.
