Strong Market Debut for Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles
- The commercial vehicle division of Tata Motors, TMCV, had a strong listing on Wednesday. Following the company's decision to demerge its passenger and commercial vehicle businesses, TMCV began trading with a premium of 28% at the NSE.
- Shares were listed at ₹335, up 28.48% from the discovered price. The shares opened at ₹330.25 on the BSE, a premium of 26.09%. The total market value of the company stood at ₹1.22 lakh crore on the NSE.
Background of the Demerger
- The company had announced its intention to demerge its automotive business into two entities by 2024. The commercial vehicle business and its related investments were merged into one company. The passenger vehicle, electric vehicle (EV), and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) businesses formed another company.
- The demerger came into effect from October 1, 2025. The Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) business has been trading independently since October 14.
Divestment and Market Performance
- Immediately after the share split, an extraordinary trading session had been conducted to determine the new stock prices. At the latest listings, the shares of TMCV entered at a strong premium over the earlier-discovered value.
- Shares of TMCV on the NSE were trading at ₹321 as of 1 PM on Wednesday, while TMPV shares were still trading at ₹404.45.
